November 22nd, 2010 ‘Tis The Season For Personalized Jewelry

‘Tis the season to buy your significant other gifts. Yes, the joyous time of year where you either slep yourself out to the local mall or haul yourself in front of the computer and try to find the perfect gift for those who are most special in your life. Sounds easy enough, right? In theory, yes, it’s a simple process that involved buying someone who you want to spend your life with a couple of gifts for the holiday season. Then again, things that are that simple never really are. For most men out there, you spend most of your time shopping for the special lady in your life fighting the urge to pull your hair out. It seems like the harder you look for the perfect gift, the less you end up finding. After a while, it becomes more of a quest than anything else. You will find that perfect gift, even if you spend the rest of the year curled up in bed. The thing is, it’s not that hard. The perfect gifts are out there, you just have to look. Take personalized jewelry for example.

Personalized jewelry is exactly what it sounds like: jewelry that is personalized for your purchase. Whether it’s your choice of stones or metals, or the inclusion of a carved message on the inside of the band, it’s essentially a piece of jewelry that you pick out especially for your significant other. It’s the kind of gift that makes perfect sense as it allows you to be creative while still giving him or her something that they really want and will really use. It’s like the best of both world.

If you think about it, a piece of personalized jewelry combines the two things that women love most in one gift: personalization and jewelry. Women love getting something that is personalized. It shows creativity and that there man is actually using their brain when it comes to getting a gift. A hint to all the men out there: a woman would rather see you put the effort into getting a personalized gift, then get the biggest, fattest diamond on the market. Well, for the most part at least.

You can find a wide variety of personalized jewelry on the internet and in some stores. In fact, some online stores are almost completely dedicated to personalized jewelry as it is that big of a market now a days. Make sure you check around to look at prices, and don’t pay too much extra for engraving, as some shops charge more than others.

August 26th, 2010 What We Really Want for Valentine’s Day

Every women loves jewelry. If she says she doesn’t she is lying to you. Oh sure, there are different degrees to loving jewelry and some love big expensive diamond rings while for other it’s really the thought that counts, but every girl out there has at least one piece of jewelry she adores. Furthermore, they love it when their significant other gets them a piece of personalized jewelry. I had this friend who once told her man that she didn’t want a piece of jewelry for Valentine’s Day. The man, skeptical, asked her again a few days later. She replied: “No, that’s fine you don’t have to get me jewelry for Valentine’s Day, get me something else”. Then, when Valentine’s Day came along, she complained to me that she didn’t get jewelry. That, guys, is what you are up again.

I don’t know why as women we just can’t come out and say that we want jewelry. I do it too, I’m not proud of it, but I’ll admit it. It’s just something in us that we can’t admit that we want it. Maybe, at least for me, I just feel too greedy asking for it. Like I’ve become that girl that I’ve always hated. Then, when it comes time for the gifts, I still get disappointed that I didn’t get at least a small little necklace or something. Oh yeah, I know that I told my husband not to get me jewelry, and I really don’t need it, but still: here I am, disappointed.

Maybe it’s the whole personalized aspect to it. I don’t expect, nor, frankly, would I really want a huge, blinged out diamond necklace. To me, that is just an utter waste of money and if he ever spent that on me I would be quiet angry. But to me, there is something great about a small piece of jewelry that really means something. Like something with a small heart on it, or something that is engraved with a saying or our names. Jewelry to me is something very personal. Everything that I have I wear at least a few times a year. I’m not a big collector nor am I someone who enjoys showing of. What I do love, though, is wearing something that if someone asks me about I can tell them a story behind it.

For my last birthday, my husband finally caught on and bought me this heart ring he found at Tiffany’s. Sure, it’s not the most expensive ring in the store (at Tiffany’s it’s not even in the top 99% of expensive rings), nor is it really showy, but he remembered it from a magazine I showed him almost a year before. To me, that is the best kind of gift of all.

March 18th, 2010 Personalized Jewelry at the Oscars

The Oscars is the biggest night in Hollywood. So stars, especially female stars, bring the big guns out and wear jewelry that can cost upwards of a million dollars apiece.

Personalized jewelry is big business in Hollywood today. You can’t watch any celebrity based TV show or see any award show without seeing stars covered in personalized jewelry. May they be subtle rings or necklaces, or in your face “bling” encrusted with more diamonds then you might find in Buckingham Palace, celebrities love jewelry that match their personality.

One of the best examples of where to find personalized jewelry is while watching an Oscar telecast. The Oscars is the biggest night in Hollywood, and hence becomes the biggest night to show off not only what you are wearing, but also how important you are by wearing it.

The first thing you’ll notice at the Oscars is that for the women everything is encrusted with diamonds. Usually, this is done in a very tasteful way, but regardless diamonds are the most important accessory at the Oscars (besides George Clooney on your arm that is). Since most of the pieces that the popular actresses wear can cost up to (and some past) $1 million, most of the jewelry that you see at the Oscars are on loan. With that said, almost all of the pieces you see in magazine photo spreads are also loaned. The reason for this is because just like with fashion, jewelry makers fall over each other to get the hottest actress to wear their jewelry. If a piece is well received on the red carpet then the press will ask the actress what she is wearing and, bam, the best free advertisement a jewelry maker could ever get. Of course, the actress has to get it back at the end of the night (the makers aren’t crazy).

Some actresses do choose to wear their own personal selection of jewelry on the red carpet, but those pieces don’t seem to have the “wow” factor that most loaned jewelry does. For as many giant, blinged out pieces of jewelry you see on the red carpet, there are other subtle pieces from their own collection that actresses love to show off. For some actresses it’s all about the diamonds- big diamond ear rings with jewels as big of your thumbnail (yes, these are considered subtle on the red carpet). Other actresses like colored stones such as rubies and colored diamonds to adorn their hand, neck or ears.

Whether its borrowed 1 million dollar pieces or something from a personal selection, red carpet jewelry does not work on its own but instead has to be used in collaboration with their designer dress. Stylists know the secrets which is why on Oscar night they might be your best accessory of all.

February 23rd, 2010 Jumping on the Personalized Jewelry Bandwagon

Personalized jewelry is like engraving on steroids. Featuring gold, diamond and silver pendants, personalized jewelry has become the must have gift for special, romantic occasions.

Valentines Day just passed and it appears that I might be the only one not currently on the personalized jewelry bandwagon. Ok, ok, I’m not the jewelry master that some of my friends are, but am I really that out of the loop that I have not yet started purchasing personalized jewelry? After this weekend, I realize that, well, maybe I am.

For those of you who aren’t aware of the “personalized jewelry” movement that seems to be sweeping the market, think of engravings on steroids. Personalized jewelry utilizes such features as engraved diamond and gold pendants added to necklaces and bracelets to make each piece unique. These pendants can feature anything from engraved names to diamond studded initials, to precious stone hearts. In all honesty, these are beautiful pieces and having a personalized piece of jewelry is something that would impress many women on a special occasion like Valentines Day.

Even though these “personalized” pieces are rather new on the market, they are becoming big business for jewelry companies. The internet is full of companies offering these personalized pendants and pieces. It is becoming such big business that they are becoming expected gifts by women for romantic milestones. My friend told me a rather, umm, ok, I found it sad, story about when she was opening gifts for Valentines Day. Her boyfriend surprised her with a homemade, romantic dinner. After some champagne and homemade cheesecake (wow, this guy is a keeper), the guy elaborately revealed a brand new diamond necklace. Now, my friend’s reaction to this: “oh, it’s not personalized”? She said that she didn’t mean it in a bad way and she was just thinking out loud. Still, the guy was understandably a bit upset, and apparently she made it up to him, but this shows women are beginning to expect their jewelry to be personalized.

So if you’re a guy at this point, you’re probably thinking what you should do to make sure your jewelry is properly “personalized”. The best thing to remember is to go with your special women’s taste when trying to personalize. Chances are if you’ve been with a woman for any sort of time you know what she likes. If she likes hearts go with hearts. If she likes diamonds try a diamond initial pendant which looks perfect on a gold necklace. If you go online and checkout what different jewelry sites have to offer I’m sure you’ll find exactly the type of personalized jewelry she wants.

Author Kimberly Green agrees, her husband can’t go wrong with personalized jewelry for any occasion!
