The Official Men’s Ring: The Championship Kind
Posted (Kim Green) in Titanium Jewelry on February-28-2010

When they are kids, boys dream of being a champion. For a select few this dream is realized, and for even fewer it is realized multiple times.

While men’s rings are big business, there is one ring that most boys grow up dreaming about possessing at some point: a championship ring. Championship rings mean that you are at the pinnacle of your sport. May it be baseball, basketball, football or hockey, championships are what the business is all about.

Whether or not you let championships define you more often has to do with how your career goes. If you’ve won them you wouldn’t change them in for anything. If you haven’t, hey, you would have liked one but you were a great overall player. Two of the most famous all-time great players to never win a championship in their sport were football quarterback Dan Marino and baseball shortstop Ernie Banks. Marino’s Miami Dolphins made the Super Bowl his first season, then lost and never made it back. Although he held many records at the end of his career, he is known as the greatest quarterback to never win a Super Bowl.

History judges Ernie Banks a bit kinder. A Hall of Fame shortstop for the Chicago Cubs in the 60’s, Banks played on some notoriously bad (and some say cursed) Cubs teams which famously didn’t win a playoff series for around a century. Because of this (and the fact that he’s so likeable) Banks usually gets a pass and continues to be one of the most beloved players in Cubs history.

Going to the other side of the spectrum, winning multiple championships takes not only skill but longevity. While hundreds of players have won multiple championships, three stand above everyone else. Of those three, two players lead with eleven championships each: basketball’s Bill Russell and hockey’s Henri Richard. Both players were key factors in two of the biggest dynasties in sports history. Playing forward for the Boston Celtics, Russell won his eleven championships in just thirteen seasons including eight straight titles from 1959-1966. Similarly, Richard’s Montreal Canadian’s were the dominate team of 50’s, 60’s and 70’s winning his eleven cups in eighteen seasons.

In baseball, beloved catcher of the dominate 50’s and 60’s Yankees dynasty, Yogi Berra, holds the record with ten rings. Berra won his ten championships between 1947 thru 1962, helping to anchor a team full of such Hall of Famers as Mickey Mantle and Whitey Ford.

While children may dream of winning a championship someday in their favorite sport, few could imagine winning enough to fill each finger on both hands. It’s one thing to be on a team that wins, it’s a whole other thing to be on eleven of them. These truly are the greatest.

Indie-rock Songs to Spice up Your First Dance
Posted (Kim Green) in article on October-31-2009

A couple’s first dance at a wedding can be a beautiful thing. Unfortunately, many of the songs are standard and, honestly, a bit boring. Check out these indie rock songs to spice things up.

Every part of a wedding takes careful planning. From the ceremony, to the women’s rings to the men’s ring to the flowers to the appetizers you serve before dinner, everything has to be thought out to the smallest detail months before the ceremony begins. But what about the first dance? Isn’t that important to? While many couples might go for the standard slow R&B or soft rock 80’s song, some might want to “hip it up” a bit and dance to something a bit more contemporary. There are a lot of great songs are there in the indie rock universe, why limit yourself? Here are a few interesting songs to consider when trying to pick that perfect song.

“I Will Follow You into the Dark”- Death Cab For Cutie
Sure, it’s a song about death. On the surface that doesn’t sound like an ideal first dance song.  But if you listen to the lyrics it’s also one of the deepest songs about love and commitment to come around in quiet a long time.  It’s a song about loving someone so much that you want to spend eternity with them. What is more romantic then that?  P.S. It’s also an easy song to dance to.

“P.S. You Rock My World” (Live Country Version)- The Eels
Like most of The Eels songs, “P.S. You Rock My World” is a song rooted in tragedy. Then again, it’s also a song about hope following a bad time in one’s life.  Regardless, it’s an absolutely beautiful song would fit well into a first dance. If you can get your hands on it, there is a live version of this song that features a country-ish vibe complete with slide guitar. It might work a little better in a dance then the acoustic tinged album version.

“Crown of Love” -The Arcade Fire
Great song- probably the most “danceable” song in the Arcade Fire repertoire. The problem is, it’s kinda of a downer lyrically. There are cover bands that have done instrumental versions of “Crown of Love”, so if you can track it down it might be worth it.

“Gymnast High Above the Ground” – The Decemberists
The Decemberists are one of the most theatrically-sounding bands in the indie-rock universe. Yet “Gymnast High Above The Ground” is done with an acoustic guitar. It’s also beautiful and dance worthy- if you don’t mind your first song being a dance to a tale about a gymnast.

The Swell Season- “Falling Slowly”
A great piano and guitar love song. It’s an Oscar-winning song about falling in love. Perfect “first dance” bait if you ask me. May be a little hard to dance to, but with some practice it will be perfect.

Let’s Talk About Men’s Wedding Rings
Posted (Kim Green) in Titanium Jewelry on September-25-2009

After years of dreaming and months of planning, it’s finally the big day. The people are seated, the strings are playing, and the bridesmaids and groomsmen are in place. The groom makes his way to his position and suddenly the music stops.

Everyone looks at the back entrance as the doors are opened. The music swoons and the bride slowly emerges to the “ooh’s” and “ahh’s” of the audience. The couple takes hands, the priest/rabbi/justice of the peace say’s the vows and the rings are presented. This is your wedding day and everything has been planned out to the last detail. The bride and groom will remember this for the rest of their lives. As a show of their union, the wedding rings will remain on their fingers ‘til death do they part.

While women’s wedding rings are a sought after, meticulously thought out purchase, any groom can tell you a men’s wedding ring usually takes a back seat. Let’s face it: it’s the bride’s day. Some might joke that the man just shows up and does what he’s supposed to do and stay’s out of the way during the bride’s big day (not exactly true, but that joke has a bit of truth). Like any purchase, though, especially one you’re going to wear on your finger for the rest of your life, you should be happy with your final product. That’s why the male wedding ring industry has been booming in recent years. Thanks to newly popular metals such as titanium, men’s wedding rings have taken a big, and masculine, step forward in quality and style.

One of the reasons why a men’s wedding ring does not get as much attention as a women’s is that it has traditionally been a very simple, smooth ring. While a women’s ring usually has multiple (or one really big) diamond’s, a men’s wedding ring is usually a very simple, non grooved white gold or silver ring that is made to alert potential flirters that “yes, I’m taken” but not much else. In other words, if you didn’t look for it you might be surprised one day to actually notice the ring (no joke, I have a married male friend who I did not notice wore a wedding ring until he pointed it out).

The new metals used by many jewelry makers have changed the way people view men’s wedding rings. Titanium wedding rings are boulder then traditional metals and with or without a diamond (some prefer black diamond’s to go with the coloring of the metal) they stand out in a way that bleeds both class and sophistication. Think of a titanium wedding ring as a high performance black sports car: it wows you with its sleek design and style, but also with its class and beauty.

Words don’t really do it much justice though. While it may not be for everyone, Titanium wedding bands are worth a look for any groom looking for something other than the traditional gold or silver wedding bands. It may change the way that people view wedding rings.

Men’s rings for weddings and for fashion
Posted (Kim Green) in Jewelry on December-23-2008

Traditionally men’s wedding rings have been your basic gold or white gold bands that have been far less extravagant than their counterpart women’s wedding bands. The reasons for this are obvious. Men traditionally required less extravagance to satisfy their tastes and also, it’s about all a man could afford after spending the majority of his life savings on that diamond!

As we transition from an industrial nation, men’s tastes have evolved to desire small embellishments and men have become a little more refined in their tastes. Nowhere is this more evident than in the world of men’s rings. What once was simple understated and economical in styling has become a market that has exploded with revolutionary designs and very unique styling.

With new contemporary alloys like palladium, tungsten, titanium and black titanium choices for the type of metals used are vastly superior to the metals used in previous years. With companies like Artcarved inlaying 18 ct gold into their titanium rings and designers like Edward Mirell making black titanium rings inlaid with grey titanium and three diamond sets, it’s obvious that we have reached a new pinnacle in the development of marriage rings for men.

For those of you not looking to make the most important commitment in your lives just yet fear not, rings are not just being made for the men who are getting married. The market has exploded for designers making rings for everyday use. They are looking for rings to relay a sense of style and refinement. Rings designed to shine but yet maintain a rugged look. Today’s rings are for the everyday man, which is evidenced by the exclusive Orange County Choppers collection available only from a select dealer. These designs are as radical as the bikes being made in upstate New York and show off a sense of ruggedness that most men dream of.

Every day use of rings to show style has become an important part of our culture. Every professional sports franchise presents rings to their champions at the end of each season which are proudly warn to show the world that they are champions. You may not have a Super Bowl ring to wear but you can easily show the world your fashion style with a multitude of rings like the very limited, highly sought after Timoku style rings made by Edward Mirell. Rings like the Timoku beveled edge band are very hard to find and will be valuable for years to come.

If you are looking for the special design for your wedding day or you are looking for the perfect style for your night out on the town then the world is your oyster! These revolutionary designs are waiting for you but hurry because they don’t always last long!

Mens Jewelry; It’s Not Just for Weddings Anymore!
Posted (Kim Green) in Jewelry on December-21-2008

Gone is the idea that rings, bands and other men’s jewelry are stuck in the “Don Johnson” 80’s era with VCR’s and the Atari. Men’s jewelry has roared back onto the scene with a vengeance and no prisoners are being taken.

If you haven’t noticed, the jewelry market has been on the warpath over the last few years. It’s not just rock stars, athletes or severely image conscious men who have been sporting jewelry, it’s your every day men who are looking for a little style to spice up their attire. It’s men like the Tuttles. Yes, you see them on television but no; they are not your average television stars. They have their own successful titanium-jewlery.com exclusive OCC line of titanium rings, bracelets and necklaces that look as stylish and futuristic as their motorcycles do. This is hands down proof that the average man is looking to enhance their style with this new wave of men’s jewelry.

Gone are the days of being restricted to simple, gold or white goal rings with little adventure in shape and excitement. We’ve reached a new era where you can get exciting designs with brilliant colors in time tested titanium or tungsten metal alloys that will withstand the abuse an active man will put it through.

With new designers like J.R Yates and his unique style of inlaying sterling silver ropes into a tungsten carbide ring is cutting edge in design and style. Edward Mirrell has achieved notoriety in GQ and Esquire for his remarkable work with his black titanium sports ring. These are just a few of the examples that are currently available that push the envelope on men’s rings.

It doesn’t just stop with rings either. Men have been buying bracelets and necklaces in record numbers to help complement their investment in style. For example, Triton has released a black diamond bracelet called the Halcyon which is very affordable considering it had a total of fifty diamonds surrounding it’s titanium base. It’s rugged yet attractive and will surely grab the eyes of everyone in the room.

Fashion statements are no longer reserved for the most beautiful of women but can now be had by the average man who has been looking to develop their own style without going too deep into the world of vanity. mens rings are a rugged style that meshes sophistication with the blue color roots of almost every man and it is taking the world by storm. Whether you are looking for your own ring or you are looking to buy that special person a gift they might not have thought of for themselves a stylish men’s ring will be an excellent choice.
