When they are kids, boys dream of being a champion. For a select few this dream is realized, and for even fewer it is realized multiple times.
While men’s rings are big business, there is one ring that most boys grow up dreaming about possessing at some point: a championship ring. Championship rings mean that you are at the pinnacle of your sport. May it be baseball, basketball, football or hockey, championships are what the business is all about.
Whether or not you let championships define you more often has to do with how your career goes. If you’ve won them you wouldn’t change them in for anything. If you haven’t, hey, you would have liked one but you were a great overall player. Two of the most famous all-time great players to never win a championship in their sport were football quarterback Dan Marino and baseball shortstop Ernie Banks. Marino’s Miami Dolphins made the Super Bowl his first season, then lost and never made it back. Although he held many records at the end of his career, he is known as the greatest quarterback to never win a Super Bowl.
History judges Ernie Banks a bit kinder. A Hall of Fame shortstop for the Chicago Cubs in the 60’s, Banks played on some notoriously bad (and some say cursed) Cubs teams which famously didn’t win a playoff series for around a century. Because of this (and the fact that he’s so likeable) Banks usually gets a pass and continues to be one of the most beloved players in Cubs history.
Going to the other side of the spectrum, winning multiple championships takes not only skill but longevity. While hundreds of players have won multiple championships, three stand above everyone else. Of those three, two players lead with eleven championships each: basketball’s Bill Russell and hockey’s Henri Richard. Both players were key factors in two of the biggest dynasties in sports history. Playing forward for the Boston Celtics, Russell won his eleven championships in just thirteen seasons including eight straight titles from 1959-1966. Similarly, Richard’s Montreal Canadian’s were the dominate team of 50’s, 60’s and 70’s winning his eleven cups in eighteen seasons.
In baseball, beloved catcher of the dominate 50’s and 60’s Yankees dynasty, Yogi Berra, holds the record with ten rings. Berra won his ten championships between 1947 thru 1962, helping to anchor a team full of such Hall of Famers as Mickey Mantle and Whitey Ford.
While children may dream of winning a championship someday in their favorite sport, few could imagine winning enough to fill each finger on both hands. It’s one thing to be on a team that wins, it’s a whole other thing to be on eleven of them. These truly are the greatest.

For over 100 years the Olympics have awarded excellence with gold, silver and bronze medals. What you might not know is that recently medals have been infused with such substances as glass and jade.
As most of you are aware, both men’s jewelry and women’s jewelry are usually deeply personal and treasured pieces of one’s overall ensemble. Many pieces of a person’s jewelry collection has deeply personal meaning as they are collected thru special purchases or from a significant other or through family hand-me-downs that passes antique jewelry thru generations.
For athletes, though, there is no better piece of jewelry that you can have in your possession than an Olympic medal. As the Olympics are in full swing, a whole new set of athletes are securing these sets of medals. Like jewelry, Olympic medals have become more stylish throughout the years. In the first Olympics games of the modern era in 1896, silver medals were given out to the winners. It wasn’t until later Olympics that the gold for first place, silver for second and bronze for third system was adapted.
Up until the 1990’s Olympic medals were usually rather benign. They were usually one color and printed with a symbol and the name of the Olympic city. It wasn’t until the 1992 Winter Olympics that this changed. The Albertville, France hosted games were known for quirky designs, and their glass infused medals were no different. In fact, the medals were more glass then precious medal. Athletes didn’t seem to mind as they were beautifully crafted and, hey, an Olympic medal is an Olympic medal.
The 1994 and 1998 Winter Olympic medals continued this quirkiness, and it wasn’t until 2008 until the usually more traditional Summer Olympics utilized foreign materials in the medals. The highly praised 2008 Beijing Olympic Medals utilized jade, which gave them both a modern and classical look. Since China spent billions of dollars trying to prefect everything about the games (at least on the surface), it’s no surprise that they provided some of the most beautiful medals in Olympic history. My guess would be that London, the host of the 2012 Olympics, presents medals that are more in line with the classical medals instead of using foreign material as the Chinese did.
More Olympic medal trivia to impress your friends: the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin, Italy was the first to feature Olympic medals with holes in the center of them (they were circles and rather fetching). The Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympic medals are the first to be “wavy”. They feature engraved emblems of the sports for which the winners participated in and are struck nine times to get their wave feature. Trust me, they look better then you might think.

Do you enjoy the practice of finding a bench and people watching? Here is a list of the best places to watch some of the most interesting people you will ever encounter.
One of the great joys on earth is people watching. There is nothing more interesting, intriguing, and dare I say it, dramatic, then watching people go about their everyday life. This isn’t about just seeing what type of women’s or men’s jewelry they are wearing or what kind of mood they are in (also, this isn’t a stalking thing- no one is being creepy with this), this is about observing people in their natural habitat and picking watching people’s natural instincts guide them through certain situations.
One of the greatest places to people watch is at theme parks. Theme parks such as Disneyland or Disney World contain such an interesting cross section of people: rich, poor, couples, new families, single people, etc. If anything, watching a family dynamic is absolutely intriguing. Usually one of the parents takes the “fun” role while the other one is forced to take the “sane” role. In other words, one parent is going to be the one who is taking the kids on all the rides while the other will have to be the one who is going to deny the children that overpriced plastic sword they want. Just grab a chair and watch the tantrums explode.
Another great place to watch a variety of people is at beaches. At the beach you can watch parents run after their children, guy’s attempting to impress ladies (while sucking in their gut), self conscious women attempting to show that they have no interest in the guys and of course attractive people trying to act overly sexy. Just remember to bring some sunscreen.
Sporting events feature some of the most interesting people in the whole wide world: super fans. We aren’t talking casual fans here, we are talking fans that paint their face team colors, buy a $200 jersey and get to a game four hours early to get drunk in the parking lot. Also, if they drag their significant others, you can watch them get self conscious about their husbands and pressure them to go home early. Plus, if their team loses: depressionville.
Concerts also feature some amazing chances to watch super fans in action. May it be metal, punk, pop or even classical, fans love to come out early, dressed in their band t-shirts, get a few drinks and get excited for their favorite artists to perform. Some of these fans bring posters, flowers, stuffed animals, or anything else you could imagine on the off chance they meet their idol. If you’re not in a hurry to get out of the parking lot, you should hang around a little bit and go by the artists exit to see the super fans try and meet their heroes. Then, if the artist does come out, watch the super fans implode and not know what to do with themselves. That, my friends, is just magic.

Remember the days where bands used to dress like they just rolled out of bed? Those days are gone as the suit has made a huge comeback both onstage and off.
Have you noticed lately that musical fashion has been a lot less extreme and a little more civilized? Gone are the days of latex, big hair and, umm, more latex, and in are designer t-shirts, suits and ties. Even classy men’s jewelry has made a valiant comeback in recent years.
Most impressively, though has been the reemergence of the full male suit in today’s music. What began as typical wear for bands and artists in the 50’s and 60’s became ironic and square with the hippy and punk movement in the late 60’s and early 70’s. Though David Bowie, U2 and the Rolling Stones attempted to keep the suit going in the 80’s, the era was dominated by hip hop and hair metal fashion which looked at suits in the same way as a kid might look at broccoli.
But in the late nineties once the grunge look became passé, the suit made a valiant comeback. One of the first established bands to commit to the suit was Green Day. Lead singer Billy Joe Armstrong made the leap from punk fashions to dress shirts and ties during the bands “Warning” album in 2000. During the 2004 “American Idiot” tour, the other members of Green Day, along with touring musicians, donned full suits which has continued during their latest tour.
Ska music has always embraced the suit as a sometimes ironic/ sometimes non-ironic part of its fashion. Harkening back to the days of Madness and The Toasters, third-wave ska bands such as the Cherry Poppin’ Daddies and The Mighty Mighty Bosstones make sure all members of their bands wear a crisp, pressed suit each time they take the stage.
With indie rock making huge inroads into the mainstream world, a whole new string of bands have been making the men’s suit a constant fashion statement. Interpol took the rock suit fashion statement one step farther than most other bands in their genre by wearing them everywhere, not just in on stage. In fact, bass guitarist Carlos Dengler stated once in an interview that he wear’s nothing but suits whenever he leaves his residence.
Alternative rock band, The Killers, led by lead singer Brandon Flowers, have been known don suits, though in recent years their fashion has become a tad more uncharacteristic (think bolo ties and feathers). The Raconteurs love to rock vintage looking suits, while Jack White rocks red and white style suits in his White Stripes band.
There are multiple other examples of band’s donning suits both onstage and off. Next time you go to a show there is a good chance you might see a band rocking more than just an instrument onstage.
Introduction:
So you are finally ready to propose and pop the question to your mate…but the question is how are you going to do it? There are a few doing’s and don’ts that you may just want to check out before you make your move.
Things You’ll Need:
A Gorgeous Engagement ring
The Engagement Ring
The time has come to propose but how are you going to do it? Well, first you need to get the ring and you can find the best engagement rings orange county has to offer right online. In my experience with jewelry I have found that the best selections and prices are when you get them online from those reputable jewelry stores. You may even want to feel the situation out and see if she would rather pick her own engagement ring when the time comes.
Talk About Marriage…Not Too Soon In A Relationship
You want to make sure that you are going to have a successful outcome. Make sure that you both have talked about the possibilities of getting married and that she will actually say yes. Sure, you want the element of surprise but you do not want a “shock and awe” effect.
Be Respectful Of Your New In-Laws
Always talk to the parents. It is just very respectful and is the right way to go about something like this. Sure it is old fashioned but this is something that needs to be done whether you like the parents or not.
Be Romantic and Charming Not Corny
Make the proposal unique to what you like. Propose to her in a setting that you will both like and enjoy. If you enjoy the park together then perhaps a romantic picnic is in order. And when the actually moment arrives get down on that knee…it is just very charming and romantic. Be sure to say something special and romantic before you say the magical words, “will you marry me”. Let her know that she is the only one and how much you care for her. You do not want this to be corny but rather memorable.
Don’t Propose In Public Or In Front Of People
Now, personally, I find it in poor taste to make something as intimate and special as this to make is public. In my opinion, I think it is a bit tacky to propose at a ballgame on the mega screen…but that is just me. Unless she is a showy sort of person this is something you may want to avoid. I also would not put the ring in food. I had a friend that almost choked on her because it was in a cupcake. Also, I would not propose in front of friends or family because it could be a little awkward for her. Remember, it are what you say and the proposal itself…the presentation is just the packaging.
