The Ever Expanding World of Live Video Streaming Services
Posted (Kim Green) in Todocast.tv on March-24-2010

In recent months I’ve utilized live video streaming services to watch live coverage of the Olympics, concerts, award shows and TV shows. And this seems to be only the beginning of what the internet has in store for us.

I’m not afraid to admit that I’ve spent my fair share of time sitting in front of my computer recently intensely watching live coverage through my live video streaming services. During the recent Olympic games I spent at least three hours a day in front of my computer watching hockey, curling and skiing action (don’t hate, once you get into curling your hooked) live through the internet. This does not count the highlights I watched through the websites video sections.

I’ve also become a big fan of watching live concert footage online. The AT&T Blue Room website has become a big force in the online concert world with full weekend coverage of such coveted music festivals as the Coachella Music & Arts Festival, Lollapalooza and The Bonarroo Festival. With their live streaming you can now see your favorite bands from the comfort of your own living room (and without having to spend $10 on a beer).

One of my favorite live video events in recent months, though, has been the live coverage of the Grammy Awards on Grammy.com in early February. Through the website for the first time you could watch live coverage of the winners being announced in the 80+ categories that don’t get coverage on the performance-heavy live television broadcast. It might sound weird to watch the winners of the Best Engineered Album getting announced, but I found it pretty interesting. Also, because most of the big Grammy Award categories usually end up being won by artists who I either don’t listen to or completely loathe, this is an opportunity to watch artists that I actually like win awards.

With the internet becoming as common as cable TV is most American homes, networks have begun to put just as much effort in their online broadcasts as they do on their television side. The last couple of years have seen CBS put every single one of the NCAA basketball tournament games live online so that fans can watch games from work or out of market. Since studies have shown that productivity at American businesses goes down nearly 50% during these tournament days it seems that this strategy is working.

Networks have also begun putting their shows on demand streaming from their websites just hours after their original airtime. The fact that networks load their streaming shows with commercials online (and no, you can’t fast-forward through them) means extra revenue and extra exposure for the show.

How the Internet Has Changed the Way We Waste Time
Posted (Kim Green) in IP Access International, Todocast.tv on January-29-2010

For every great tool the internet has given us like live video streaming services, the internet has also given us wonderful distractions like live panda webcams. Before we decry them, these distractions also show us how far we’ve come and how much we have stayed the same.

To see how much the internet has changed life as we know it you have to look at the simple things. Sure, we have stuff like live video streaming services, and you can listen to radio live from just about anywhere in the world, but that stuff is the stuff you tend to think about everyday. Instead, just take a look at all the stupid little distractions that live streaming video has given us in the last decade. You can check out just about anything online. As we speak I am watching a live webcam of a baby panda from the San Diego Zoo. Cute? Yes. Unnecessary? Absolutely. But if there is anything that is indicative of the “age of the internet”, this is it. You now have literally millions of ways of waste your time, and you can access them anytime you want. And frankly, there is nothing wrong with this.

Don’t get me wrong, distraction did not just begin with the internet. Let me tell you a little story I heard when I was on a family vacation back in the late 90’s. On a cruise to Alaska we had an excursion day in Juneau. During our excursion we hired a cab to take us around and see the sights. During one of our stops our cabbie told us a story about how the local cable supplier had an open channel which they decided to fill with a live camera of a fish tank while they tried to negotiate a real network to fill that slot. About six months later they finally filled the channel with a real entertainment network, hence taking the fish tank off the air. To the cable suppliers surprise they were bombarded with calls and letters from locals demanding that they bring the fish tank back. Apparently they became so attached to the fish tank that they watched the channel religiously.

To me, stories like this prove that there is always a market for these live animal webcams online. Webcams showing everything from pandas to buildings to trees to, yes, even fish tanks gets thousands of viewers daily. Do they make money? Who knows, but they show where technology has taken us. But this is just the way it goes with technology: each medium starts out as a way to get information out and then as it advances in comes other sources and, eventually, distractions. When television was created it was three channels. Now, there are 500-1000 channels and no lack of “distractions” on the airwaves. Heck, even the news channels are “entertainment” based.

This is what happened with the internet. Once people got use to webcams and e-mail, then came web based entertainment and around the clock web coverage. Where will the internet in the future? Who knows, but I know that I’ll be there watching it.

A Revolution in Communications
Posted (Kim Green) in Todocast.tv on May-28-2009

With the explosion of the Internet over the last 10 years there has bee a revolution in the manner of which we receive communication. From social conversations to world news, social media and live video streaming services have brought us into a new world.

The generation that used to place stamps on envelopes and place calls from a pay phone has given way to a generation that communicates largely by text messaging on highly advanced mobile phones. It’s a generation that uses the Internet to keep everyone in their social circle updated on a per minute basis on social communication websites like Facebook, MySpace and Twitter. No longer do we have to wait several days or weeks to send a communication by traditional mailing methods and then wait days for a reply to that message. Now every possible form of communication can be accomplished in seconds. From utilizing a wireless provider for texting services to using live video streaming services to broadcast to your co-workers the world of communication has never offered so many options.

In any revolution there are winners and losers. The losers in this new world of communication are those who are unwilling to adapt and who are seemingly stuck in the stone age of communication. These individuals are losing out on the ability to receive instant “as they happen” updates from thousands of news outlets. In November of 2007, Facebook users broke the story of the Mumbai, India attacks before any major news outlet knew about it. It is now possible to take eyewitness accounts of current events and transfer them to people in all corners of the world instantly! This is a clear indication that this revolutionized method of communication has grown out of its infancy and has enabled us to obtain information at a record pace.

Not only has the Internet revolution made it easier to receive updates from your friend’s busy lives as well as receiving world news in an instant. It’s also opening new gateways for the way we enjoy our leisure time. By this point we all know the trials and tribulations of peer-to-peer music sharing but in a whole, the revolution in communications has been a large success for the entertainment business. With services like iTunes, you can buy an individual song instead of spending money on an entire album. Not only does this save you money it helps the planet by reducing the amount of waste that ends up in landfills. Up and coming bands can afford to use live video streaming services to broadcast concerts from local venues to the computers of their MySpace Music fans across the world. This has opened up vast new landscapes for the starving artists in our world and has given them a new platform to succeed.

It’s hard to tell where the next big social media service will come from and it’s impossible to say what it will do to revolutionize the world of communication. Holograph images were recently used during pre-game broadcasting of the 08-09 Super Bowl and should be an indication of the future possibilities of communication. As we adjust and adapt to our new methods we will continue to expand, invent and conquer new more exciting methods to bring us closer to the world and the people around us.

Broadcast Your Dream Wedding
Posted (Kim Green) in Todocast.tv on March-29-2009

Brides and grooms are flocking to sandy beaches and exotic locations in record numbers and live video streaming services makes it possible for everyone to be there.

These days many couples are whisking away to some pretty exotic places to say “I Do” Then there are those who don’t want to go exotic but still want to have their weeding in a beautifully romantic place, such as the Wedding Pavilion at the Grand Floridian Resort, Walt Disney World. While this sounds great to the excited couple, it may not be so exciting for those friends and family members who cannot join them.

Destination weddings have exploded to include a little over 15 percent of all weddings—quadrupling in under a decade. However, the problem of disgruntled guests and ultimately, empty seats, has remained steady.

Live video streaming services is now the answer to the problem of absent guests at the couple’s dream wedding by providing an inexpensive, uncomplicated technological solution. Now, live video streaming services can capture the wedding, during and after the actual ceremony.

When planning a wedding, the bride and groom of course get caught up in what they want. They have grandiose dreams what their perfect wedding should be like and where it should be held. Then, reality sets in. Suddenly brides and grooms realize that many invited guests cannot make it to the wedding due to travel costs, health concerns or conflicts. The number one reason many guests cannot attend is the high cost of travel. It doesn’t stop there though. Travel is not only expensive but if also requires many people to request time off of work, which becomes an issue as well. This huge realization ca often cause the couple to feel guilty for indulging in their dream wedding being held in a non-traditional location.

In today’s age of growing technology, it is now possible to broadcast the event live so those who are unable to attend can still be there, in a way. Keeping the technology simple, live video streaming services can be used worldwide and by both professionals and amateur videographers.

Those guests who cannot make the live event can receive information explaining the login protocol and reminding them of the date and time. If the guest forgets to watch in real time, the video is available for download moments after the nuptials are made.

With live video streaming services; there is no need for the bride and groom to feel guilty about the location they choose for their wedding. They can still have their dream wedding in any location they choose and be assured all guests will be able to experience the event.

Planning Your Own Pay Per View Event
Posted (Kim Green) in Todocast.tv on January-13-2009

With the explosion of local sporting events like local wrestling shows, extreme sports leagues and contact school sporting events, the needs for pay per view services have become an in-demand service.Live video streaming services have become one of the biggest net sensations over the last couple of years. You can remember growing up as a child with your father watching George Foreman winning championships in boxing on pay per view. The days of mega millionaire companies and pay per views will likely never go away as subscriptions grow by the millions every year.

However, earning revenue from putting on a pay per view event is no longer relegated to just the largest media companies in the world. Now, a small start up sports league, fight league or extreme sports league can afford to host a pay per view online with live video streaming services.

Not only can live video streaming be a success for sporting leagues, it can be a success for musicians who wish to put on a concert for their adoring fans and it can also be a great way to broadcast special events like a wedding. We all know that there can be times when it’s not feasible to have every loved one at an event so offering the ability to stream an event over the internet is a great way to ensure everyone can be included in your special event.

It’s now become possible to literally film and stream recorded and live events of any nature online for anyone you want to see it or anyone you want to pay to see it. This technology truly takes the capabilities of tomorrow and puts them in your lap today!

It’s important to find a service company that will partner with you by tailoring to your needs. It’s important to find a service company that will allow you to host your Pay per view on their server. They should be willing to handle the monetary transactions while hosting your web space so you can focus on your event. They should offer technical services to make sure that everything goes off without a hitch. They should also be able to direct you to camera operators that have the capability to interface with the technology needed for live streaming of your event.

Few companies offer this level of service but it is important when making a decision that the company you partner with to broadcast your event is trust worthy and that they are there to ensure your event’s success. If a company offers all of these things to you it will be easy to have confidence that your pay per view event will go off without a hitch and your event will be a financial success.
