Live Event Video Streaming – a Hot Trend
Posted (Kim Green) in Todocast.tv on August-13-2009

One of the best trends to come out of the recent explosion of multi-day music festivals is the popularization of the live event video streaming of the festivals. What started as individual bands posting individual performance videos on their website’s has turned into noon to midnight live converge of full sets of band performances.

This first concert festival to really popularize the live streaming of full live sets was the Coachella Music and Arts Festival in Indio, Ca. This annual April concert event features dozens of bands and while the live streaming started with just a few smaller bands being featured the festival has recently started to webcast full sets by headliners like Morrissey, The Killers and The Cure. Because the economy has caused many people to skip the $200-plus festival, the webcasting is a great way for fans to see their favorite bands without spending any of their much needed cash.

One of the coolest festivals to recently embrace the trend of live event video streaming is the Chicago based Pitchfork Festival. This recent 2009 festival introduced full live coverage through their new Pitchfork.tv feature. Unlike in previous years, the video was clean and crisp and didn’t suffer from any loading problems before or during the streaming. The Flaming Lips, The National and more were not only featured live during the performance but is archived for viewing after festival.

The Bonnaroo Festival, which takes place on a typically rainy weekend in June on a piece of Tennessee farmland, features a large list of a-list artists. Typically leaning towards “jam-bands” as well as the newest alternative talent, Bonnaroo was one of the first festivals to fully embrace live event video streaming. While big bands were at first fairly gun-shy about allowing festivals to broadcast their sets free over the web, this year’s web stream featured such huge artists as Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band as well as a reunited Phish webcasting their performances. Furthermore, Bonnaroo was the first festival to sign a contract to broadcast a few select performances to music television station FUSE for a broadcast later in the month.

Lollapalooza, the grand daddy of summer touring festivals and now a yearly occurrence in Chicago, featured brand new live streaming technology during this year’s festival which led to some of the clearest, fasting streaming ever for an event of its type.  The festival also pulled out the big guns showcasing several of their headlining on their webcast.

It will be interesting to see where this ever improving technology will go for future live festivals. With more festivals embracing live webcasting (festivals are doing record business even with the free webcasting) fans are now getting opportunities to see their favorite bands from the comfort of their own computer anywhere in the world.

It used to be that the popular discussion was how may televisions the average family owned but now its how many computers. It’s no wonder that a large portion of the job sector has gone to the internet over the last fifteen years and it’s no wonder that every person on the planet has secrete dreams of becoming the next big thing on the internet.

Countless people have been able to develop loyal fan followings on social networking sites like you tube like a certain obsessed Brittany Spears fan! He was able to obtain is several minutes of fame and even secured a reality series on cable television. The new lead singer of Journey was observed by the band on MySpace and was immediately thrust into the spotlight as the group’s new lead singer. In the era of unedited news that gets delivered at record setting pace it’s no wonder that everywhere you look you’ll find someone willing to step into the shining light of fame.

So you want to be that person? MySpace is played out and you don’t feel like learning “The flight of the wounded bumble bee” on guitar to show the Youtube world that you are the next Nuno Bettencourt? Instead of going the route of “over played police chase” save yourself a few years of prison time and figure out how to maximize live event video streaming. This is the wave of the future. As “reality” gets put back into the hands of real people and artists take control of their creative outlets from the historically narrow-minded and greedy promoters you’re going to find that live event video streaming will become the must have medium on the internet.

Rock bands have already begun to use closed circuit broadcasting to share their live concerts to people around the world and the NFL has successfully broadcasted their games via live stream to theaters in several cities. The wave of the future is already here and it’s time for you to figure out how to use it to find your place in internet history!

It won’t be long before you turn on your computer and see banner ads for live concerts, television and historical events that will be broadcast in high definition right to your computer. It’s up to you to find the creative source to make your mark. Once it becomes the must have item there is little chance you’ll be able to ride the wave to the bank and then you’ll be left looking for the next big thing.

A Revolution in Communications
Posted (Kim Green) in Todocast.tv on May-28-2009

With the explosion of the Internet over the last 10 years there has bee a revolution in the manner of which we receive communication. From social conversations to world news, social media and live video streaming services have brought us into a new world.

The generation that used to place stamps on envelopes and place calls from a pay phone has given way to a generation that communicates largely by text messaging on highly advanced mobile phones. It’s a generation that uses the Internet to keep everyone in their social circle updated on a per minute basis on social communication websites like Facebook, MySpace and Twitter. No longer do we have to wait several days or weeks to send a communication by traditional mailing methods and then wait days for a reply to that message. Now every possible form of communication can be accomplished in seconds. From utilizing a wireless provider for texting services to using live video streaming services to broadcast to your co-workers the world of communication has never offered so many options.

In any revolution there are winners and losers. The losers in this new world of communication are those who are unwilling to adapt and who are seemingly stuck in the stone age of communication. These individuals are losing out on the ability to receive instant “as they happen” updates from thousands of news outlets. In November of 2007, Facebook users broke the story of the Mumbai, India attacks before any major news outlet knew about it. It is now possible to take eyewitness accounts of current events and transfer them to people in all corners of the world instantly! This is a clear indication that this revolutionized method of communication has grown out of its infancy and has enabled us to obtain information at a record pace.

Not only has the Internet revolution made it easier to receive updates from your friend’s busy lives as well as receiving world news in an instant. It’s also opening new gateways for the way we enjoy our leisure time. By this point we all know the trials and tribulations of peer-to-peer music sharing but in a whole, the revolution in communications has been a large success for the entertainment business. With services like iTunes, you can buy an individual song instead of spending money on an entire album. Not only does this save you money it helps the planet by reducing the amount of waste that ends up in landfills. Up and coming bands can afford to use live video streaming services to broadcast concerts from local venues to the computers of their MySpace Music fans across the world. This has opened up vast new landscapes for the starving artists in our world and has given them a new platform to succeed.

It’s hard to tell where the next big social media service will come from and it’s impossible to say what it will do to revolutionize the world of communication. Holograph images were recently used during pre-game broadcasting of the 08-09 Super Bowl and should be an indication of the future possibilities of communication. As we adjust and adapt to our new methods we will continue to expand, invent and conquer new more exciting methods to bring us closer to the world and the people around us.

Education via Live Satellite Webcasts
Posted (Kim Green) in Todocast.tv on April-13-2009

Many schools these days offer classes via live satellite webcasts that reach thousand of students each year. Even small schools with a minimum budget can offer classes in this fashion.

Streaming media is basically technology that enables you to listen to music and view video in real-time over the Internet without lengthy downloads.
There are many things to consider when participating in or offering an interactive course live via satellite using streaming media webcasts. Here are the main concerns:

The students should have access to a classroom setting that has the proper resources to support participation in live streaming media broadcasts and distance learning in general.  Communication between the students, instructor and support staff is extremely important as well. Contact information for technical support, including the broadcasting site’s technical support group, and the technical support for the remote sites, should be readily available to students as well as instructors.  It cannot be stressed enough that technical support is absolutely necessary on both ends of the spectrum for live satellite webcasts to be successful. Should there be an issue with the webcast, a means to fix the issue should be readily available.

Once the correct setting, for receiving the live satellite webcasts as well as the broadcasting site itself is ready, there are a few more things to consider. It is imperative that archives of the streaming media broadcasts; copies of the presentation, lecture notes, and worksheets should be available and accessible. Course broadcasts should be accessible to those people with disabilities.  For example, a person who is hearing impaired would have difficulties participating in the course if the type of course delivery relied heavily on audio materials.

Schools are not the only groups who choose to use live satellite webcasts for educational purposes.  More and more hospitals and health education centers are also using live satellite webcasts to reach the general public. Often times parents and health officials are invited to watch a webcast regarding the latest in research and technology regarding a particular health issue.
In some cases, those who participate in viewing a webcast will receive continuing education credits.

The advancement of technology has made it easier for many people to either state their cause to a large audience, educate those who want to learn as well as allow those who are physically unable to leave their home a way to participate.
If you take all of the above into consideration and prepare everything according to what needs to be done, live streaming media webcasts can be effective and viable alternatives for participating in or delivering many different types of courses.
