Let me ask you this: if your city were immortalized in a satirical movie of how government law enforcement had to be replaced with corrupt, privately operated law enforcement companies, would you want a memorial to it in your city? That’s one of the debates facing the people of Detroit. The mayor recently made a public statement against the building of a Robocop statue and people are actullay wondering why he said “no” to the idea. I think my previous statement explains his reasoning pretty concisely.
What would you do if you knew waste gases were being used to power your home? There’s a plant in Brooklyn that takes the escaping methane gases from sewage water treatment plants and convert the gases to usable energy. The plant won’t open until 2012, but this is exciting news for anyone interested in developing eco-friendly technologies. Thanks to Lori Zimmer for the info.
January 18th, 2011 Sainthood
The late Pope John Paul seemed to have a tremedous impact on society, and not just Catholics. I think it’s a testament to the impact he did have when news services are reporting on the progress of his candidacy for sainthood. When I was younger, I was under the impression that saints had been able to commit some supernatural act. I guess in reality all you need to do is be a good person and good leader.
Is there anyone who is a fan of musicals that hasn’t seen this headline recently? I think this show is going to be in previews forever. It certainly seems that way. I would love to see Spider-Man make it and be somewhat successful. The Associated Press listed all the details for the latest delay and proposed opening for this beleaguered show.
January 13th, 2011 Music
Everyone knows how intregal music is to life. We define our lives by the music we listen to. Everyone remembers the song they danced their first slow dance, what was playing on the radio when you got to kiss for the first time, etc. Well, Malcolm Ritter is reporting that a new study shows the reason is similar to sex and eating. The brain releases a chemical that is pleasurable to the body when listening to music. Now, I have to ask, what does that do for us? Does it make the music even better? Does it make our lives better? Who actually commissions these types of studies?
