March 31st, 2011 Prisoners and victims

I just read an article from out of New Jersey where a young man has been given a life sentence for a knife attack on a family which included a young girl. The man pleaded insanity but the jury saw through the argument. It’s really sad how some people will try to make themselves the victim and shove the responsibility of their actions onto someone from their past. While some people have legitimate wrongs committed against them, there is a point when even those people need to start making choices in their life that will lead them to a life of happiness and satisfaction.

March 29th, 2011 Income woes

How rich is rich enough? Is it possible to be only “well off” if you make what some people consider rich money? I was reading an article from The Fiscal Times and a family of four with a combined income of $250,000 is no longer a guaranteed rich life. Even with frugal living and diligent attention to the tax laws and breaks, families usually end up with more expenses than income when they make a quarter of a million dollars a year. I’ve always said that it takes creativity and ingenuity mixed with hard work to really set you and your family up for financial independence.

March 17th, 2011 Computers

I have to say “Bravo” to Asus for this one. There is so much focus right now on making the most of the natural resources we have, that innovation is becoming more and more common. Asus makes computers, and to save resources, they are going to start installing the motherboards into the boxes in which they ship. That means the box will actually be the computer itself. I found this great bit of news on inhabitat.com.

February 16th, 2011 S-E-L-L

The title is one of those four letter words that people don’t like to discuss, like politics and religion. But I was reading an article from Darren Hardy, who has made a successful living from selling. In the article he tells of how his mentor got him to replace the word “sell” with “help.” This is just good advice. It doesn’t matter if you are in business or not, basing your life off of the need to help other people will create the ultimate win-win situation for everyone.

February 15th, 2011 Robocop Statue

Let me ask you this: if your city were immortalized in a satirical movie of how government law enforcement had to be replaced with corrupt, privately operated law enforcement companies, would you want a memorial to it in your city? That’s one of the debates facing the people of Detroit. The mayor recently made a public statement against the building of a Robocop statue and people are actullay wondering why he said “no” to the idea. I think my previous statement explains his reasoning pretty concisely.
