As I grow older, I am becoming more aware of the need for good nutrition and health habits. I recently cam across an article on health by David Zinczenko. The title alone intrigued me. It was the only food rules I’ll ever need. Well, I believe in gathering more than one source of information on any subject, so these may not be the only rules I’ll use, but I do think these are some good rules to start with.
February 17th, 2011 Diet Soda
I was so pleased with myself when I made the switch to the “healthier” diet soft drinks, but it appears that pleasure may be short lived. A recent study, reported by Linda Carroll, suggests that a daily dose of diet soda may actually increase your risk for heart attack and stroke. Now, the article does have a disclaimer that more studies need to be conducted; I just hope this doesn’t turn into another egg see-saw. You remember a few years ago when it seemed like each year produced a study where it contradicted the precious year’s findings? I hope we can get a definitive answer on the diet soda question.
I was reading about this article on breast cancer where a company is selling bracelets with the phrase “I (heart) Boobies” on it. Some schools are banning the bracelet saying that the wording is inappropriate for students. The firm claims that it is raising awareness in a demographic that hasn’t been reached. Here’s my issue. If this were any other part of the body, nobody would be saying a word. And doesn’t cancer strike anywhere. I have a grandmother who died from pancreatic cancer, but there’s no “Pancreatic Cancer Awareness” month. I just don’t see the need to focus on breast cancer specifically for one month. Cancer is cancer; most of us know about it. Many of us have a close friend or relative affected by cancer of some body part. So, my final word. Get rid of the bracelets; they’re unnecessary. They raise awareness about aomething which people are already aware. It’s redundant. Let’s find a cure for all types of cancer, not just the type that affects breasts.
Not right after the other obviously. Reuters is reporting that if people have trouble sleeping in the evening, it is better to go for a vigorous run during the day instead of counting sheep. Scientists cannot pinpoint the reason why, all they know is that it works.
I could not pass this article up. I’m a Star Trek fan and just had to read a little bit to see what the article was all about. Apparently, there is a link between men who have trouble expressing their emotions and the amount of testosterone the body produces. Amanda Chan reported on this first.
