The Off Road World and the Economy Struggles
Posted (Kim Green) in Dragon Fire Racing on May-29-2009

It’s easy to see the impact that the economy has had on the automotive industry but the wide spread focus of the automotive fall out will reach many sectors including the off road world.

While the world continuously feels the impact of the weakening automotive industry in new ways it’s easy to see that the impact of such losses will have numerous impacts on business sectors outside of the automotive industry. With billions being spent in bail out capitol to help business like Chrysler manage through these hard times so they can retool and refocus their business on the evolving needs of their customer’s it’s clear that the negative impact will last for years, if not generations.

While the government seems content in handing money to these industries companies like Polaris, whom has maintained steady cash flow due to products like Polaris RZR accessories has begun to also see a decline in customers and overall sales.  The business structure for off road equipment sales is exactly the same as the automotive industry. If you are interested in buying a Yamaha dirt bike you’ll walk into a show room where a sales person will greet you and walk you though your purchase. In most cases a loan officer and bank will be involved in the purchase of your equipment. While that’s being processed take a look around. You’ll most likely see a wealth of after market products. In-fact, the after market products for off road vehicles surpasses the automotive industry in triplicate.  One you’ve purchased your off road vehicle there will surely be a service center that is there to assist you with those needed modifications or necessary repairs.

If all of this sounds familiar, it should, it’s the exact same process that’s taken when you purchase a brand new automobile. This means the impact of losing this business is as bad as losing a local Ford dealership. Large multi dealership complexes are being affected without the benefit of bail out money to help them survive through these challenging times. It’s true that these dealerships tend to be smaller in size then dealerships that sell off road vehicles but in economic times as these, luxury items such as new Polaris RZR accessories will be the first items left on the shelves.  Most people cannot live without an automobile but when push comes to shove, they can live without their off-road weekends.

It’s up to us as off road enthusiasts to support our local dealers and favorite online dealers and we can do that by simply enjoying our weekends by going to our favorite trails or race tracks. We’ll surely break something and will need to repair it! In reality, spending money is the only way to keep costs down. As we move through this recession our favorite dealers will be forced to limit sales staff, product availability and raise prices to compete with the shrinking dollar. To combat this we need to support the businesses that have supported out habits over the last numerous years.

Finding Excellent Teryx Accessories
Posted (Kim Green) in Dragon Fire Racing on April-22-2009

A wide variety of Teryx accessories are not only available directly from Kawasaki but also from a multitude of other aftermarket companies.  It is now easy to find what you need quickly!

There are so many people; men, women, and teens who are really getting into to off roading.  Now that this is the case, the need for parts and accessories has become greater.   Going directly to Kawasaki is certainly an option, but there are many reputable companies who now sell aftermarket accessories and Kawasaki Teryx accessories at excellent prices.

The powerful 750 V-twin engine in the Kawasaki Teryx has definitely drawn attention from different aftermarket companies that produce performance exhausts and CDI’s.  Not only that but wheels and tires will be very popular as well since they are on any ATV or side-by-side vehicle.

Take the Copperhead VDI capacitive discharge ignition box.  This VDI can accept different pigtail wiring harnesses to work on a variety of different machines when properly programmed with the appropriate firmware.  Programmable with a variety of different ignition timing curves, the Kawasaki Teryx VDI can be custom programmed to match the specific modifications of your machine.

Dynatek sells a performance CDI to help release more power and performance from the Teryx.  There are other CDI’s that are available as well. There are other companies that make CDI’s but Dynatek seems to be the best bang for your buck.

Onto intake modification kits.  One type of intake that has been popular on other side by sides like the Yamaha Rhino has been the hardstyle filter adapter that mounts inside the stock airbox.  What this does is it allows an air filter to clamp on securely.  Also, it is possible to run these filters with the airbox lid off for additional airflow.  Some of these kits come with a foam filter element.  For very dusty conditions, an oil foam filter element is your best bet.

Of course, one of the most popular of Teryx accessories are exhausts.  A variety of well-known companies produce performance exhausts for the Teryx.
You can go with a less expensive single slip on mufflers as well as true dual exhausts for the V-Twin, which should improve the sound and also the performance.

Here s a tip; if you’re not interested in spending the cash for an entire new exhaust system, then you may want to do what others have done, which was simply removed the exhaust tip on the stock muffler.  This has actually been tested and confirmed!  The results? By removing the stock exhaust tip (remove 3 bolts), power jumped up from 3 – 7 HP at the rear wheels.

Since the explosion of popularity of this new machine, there is sure to be plenty of Kawasaki Teryx accessories to choose from!

Getting the Most From Your Yamaha Rhino Parts
Posted (Kim Green) in Dragon Fire Racing on March-10-2009

Taking stock off road vehicles and turning them into off road worth race machines can be difficult. Fortunately for Yamaha Rhino owners it’s early to get performance modifications from Yamaha Rhino parts.

If you are new to off-road racing, engine revamping and performance gains or you are used to the business everyone can get the most out of bolt on horsepower! With just cause most people have become less trusting of companies promising to add tremendous amounts of horsepower with simple bolt on or swap out parts but every once in a while a part is designed that delivers a cost effective way to add bolt on horsepower and get great horsepower gains at the wheels. After all, the only horsepower that counts is the horsepower at the wheels!

There are numerous Yamaha Rhino parts such as the Rhino engine programmer is an example of horsepower add ons that can help with enhancing engine performance and overall horse power. These are time proven; track proven and race proven add ons that really go a long way in giving you the edge.

When doubling the horsepower of any vehicle it will be necessary to upgrade the amount of fuel going into the engine. A few good examples of such bolt on power is the Rhino 400MM throttle body. This will allow for increased fuel consumption to match the new output of your engine modifications.

While pre manufactured exhausts are modifications that really only require the turning of a few bolts with a torque wrench the additional applications will require a higher level of know how to make sure everything is set up correctly.  Jet kits are simple parts that go into a carburetor or fuel injection system to allow more fuel into the engine. This helps to increase the amount of horsepower you can get from your machine! They only take a basic knowledge of carburetors or injection systems and a good set of instructions to complete and calibrate. There are many books out there that help you understand how to perform these modifications but as always. If this is out of our element then seek professional help! It’s always cheaper to do it right the first time than to fix a mistake.

Yamaha Rhino 660 Turbo Kit is one of the best modifications you can get from Yamaha Rhino parts. It’s an expensive mod but it will give you turbo power, which will give you the largest amount of performance gains from bolt on applications. This is a great mod but is for the advanced mechanic that understands engine overhauls.

Horsepower is addictive and usually it’s very costly but when you can almost double the amount of horsepower to your vehicle with a bolt on application while getting your hands a little dirty it’s a win win investment for fun!

Getting the Best Performance from Your Polaris Ranger
Posted (Kim Green) in Dragon Fire Racing on January-11-2009

The popularity of Polaris Ranger off road vehicles has exploded in recent years. It’s no surprise that off road enthusiasts are looking for ways to maximize their performance and fun.

A stock Polaris Ranger 4X4 base cost is $9,699 and it’s not uncommon for an owner who is interested in high performance to multiply this cost three fold to build their machine to exactly what they want. This is not an uncommon theme for any off road vehicle from a dirt bike to a full blown off road truck. Performance costs money and high performance is the key to maximizing the fun you will have on your weekend outings.

There are several aspects of vehicle modification that are usually overlooked. Safety and suspension are two of the most important features of a properly built ride but they are commonly given minimal attention or they are completely overlooked all together. However, Safety and suspensions tie together nicely and they are easily done at the same time.
The Polaris Ranger is capable of having enhanced roll cages and bumpers added. The best time to do modifications like this is when you have the vehicle apart to build the suspension. The Polaris Ranger suspension is adequate for a stock vehicle but if you want more out your Polaris power plant you better budget for Polaris suspension upgrades. If you don’t you’ll lose precious horsepower going to the wheels because the suspension will not be able to react to the higher levels of torque. This causes serious loss of horsepower.

Another drawback to a stock suspension is the amount of travel that you will get. With a properly set up suspension you’ll be able to traverse rockier terrain and you’ll be able to get out of places that a stock Ranger would not be able to get out of. An added benefit to a better suspension is usually an upgrade in tire sizes. A bolt on suspension will not allow you drastic changes in this department but it will allow you small upgrades to give a little added clearance.

It’s easy to understand the lure of a high performance off road machine. The benefit of the Ranger is that it can take two people on a great weekend journey through the woods whereas a four-wheel vehicle is designed for a single person and a completely built off road tuck and cost at least $50,000 for a dependable vehicle. The Ranger gives a lot more for a lot less even with the added cost of upgrades.

It’s important to make sure the job is properly planned and attention is paid to all elements that add up to a successful build like safety and suspension to ensure you are getting the most out of your power plant modifications and to ensure you are safe while out in the woods.
