June 19th, 2009 Recession Proof Activities and Businesses

We are squarely in the middle of a recession yet many business sectors are still succeeding. When people get stressed they find ways to enjoy a good movie, go to the links and swing their golf clubs, share a conversation with those who matter the most and to take mini-vacations.

Since the 1920’s few business sectors can claim to be recession proof but it’s clear that in the new millennium many business have proven to be able to weather a recession if not be recession proof. Hollywood has always been one of these businesses. In the 70’s when gas was through the roof and we were in a recession Hollywood actually saw an increase in movie revenue. The price was always right for a family struggling to pay the bills and ninety-minute movie always served as a mental break from the daily grind that weighed so heavily on people’s minds. Although the price of a movie has risen a lot since the 70’s (along with gas prices) it’s clear to see that Hollywood is still proving to be protected from the recessionary woes that many people find themselves in.

When people find it hard to get from paycheck to paycheck they look for avenues to relax. Many men and women alike find that taking up sports like flag football, softball and golf offer relief from their daily stress with minimal investment. Swinging those golf clubs help to melt away those work related frustrations that keep their stomachs in knots all week long.

As technology advances we are finding new recession proof industries. Another recession resistant business has been the world of wireless communication. Although the same can’t be said for landline services, the wireless mobile phone industry has been booming and even hiring new employees when most every other company has been completing mass layoffs. When it comes to communication people need to be on the go more now then ever. As many people look to take on a second job or have a new family member out in the work force the wireless industry has backed into a recession proof parking spot that seems to be quite secure; at least this time around.

With cities like Las Vegas feeling the pinch of the economy many smaller vacation spots are actually seeing an increase in revenue. People are choosing to forgo the larger vacations like Disney World in favor of smaller destinations closer to home. For some this is a necessary adjustment to their usual plans but the end result is a smaller stream of revenue that has been given to those businesses that would otherwise be overlooked for the larger more popular destinations.

As with all recessions we will overcome and move to more prosperous times again but there is a lot to be learned from times like these. Look to those companies who can survive the worst of times and look to the bonding that happens when a recession occurs. Most of the items discussed above spur social interaction, which is the key to happiness. So this goes to show that money isn’t the root of happiness.

April 10th, 2009 Choosing the Right Golf Equipment

If you are using the wrong golfing equipment, such as golf drivers and putters, you will quickly find that you will not play as well as someone who has the right equipment.

Before you set out to find the perfect golfing equipment, there are two very important factors you need to take into consideration:
What is your level of playing?  What is your budget?

When it comes to the level of play, some folks play on the weekend jut for a fun and relaxing activity and others who like a little competition among their peers. If the occasional pastime is your speed, a low- to mid-performance club can work for you, while a high-performance club is best suited for those who’ll play more often.

Regarding your budget. The notion that the more costly the club, the better it is really is just not the case anymore. If you do enough research and read enough reviews you will find a club that matches your degree of interest. A tip; check out used clubs as they can give you the best odds of getting the club you want at a good value.  If you find that purchasing your own golfing equipment is not feasible for you at the moment, you may also consider borrowing or renting clubs. Be careful though, a big problem with using clubs that you did not purchase for yourself is that you will most likely not be using clubs suited for you, and this could adversely affect your game. As soon as it is possible for you to purchase your own clubs you must – these clubs will be suited toward improving your game and allowing you to progress to the next level.

Once you have your level of play and your budget squared away, then you can begin checking out different types of golf drivers and putters.  Here are the basics on these different clubs:

Woods

A driver called 1-wood and fairway woods 3- and/or 5-wood are typically standard in any golfer’s bag. A driver is the longest club, typically 45 inches, making it the toughest to handle during a swing.

Irons

Irons have thin heads with grooves on them. Typically, experienced players opt for a blade style iron while beginners get a cavity-back style. A blade-style has a head with a full back, while a cavity back’s head is hollow. It is hollowed out to make a perimeter weighting effect helpful for less-experienced golfers.
Basically, irons are categorized as long, mid and short whit short irons being the easiest to hit and long ones the hardest.

Putters

Putters are the clubs most regularly used in the game and come in head styles of blade, heel-toe and mallet. Lengths come in belly putters, standard and broomstick putters. Picking a putter is definitely a personal choice.

If you are new to the world of golf then choosing the right golf equipment can be overwhelming. However, keeping your goals in mind and giving different types of clubs a try will make things much easier.

March 27th, 2009 The Basics of Golf

Golf is a fun and relaxing game that anyone can learn to play.  If you know the rules and you have a good set of clubs, like maybe a set of adams golf drivers, you’re in for an enjoyable afternoon!

The game of golf is played on a huge, grass-covered area known as a golf course. The course is either a nine-hole or an eighteen-hole playing field. Many beginners prefer to start with a nine-hole golf course. Some people prefer to go right for the 18 hole golf courses but really, if you’re a beginner, 18 holes could make for a very very long day!

Each player needs the necessary equipment to play the game. You need a set of playing clubs, balls, shoes, tees, and of course a nice golf bag to put everything into. Once you have the necessary equipment, you must attempt to hit a golf ball into successive holes, which are located on the course.

You need to start at the teeing area. Place a tee straight into the ground and then place a golf ball on top of it. Once the ball is set on the tee, swing your club and hit the ball. The goal is to get the ball into the first hole on the course. It’s ideal to get the ball in the hole on the first try but that is near impossible, especially for a beginner. Score is kept in the game of golf by how many strokes it takes to hit the ball into every hole. The least number of strokes wins the game!

Now, it’s difficult enough to hit a small white ball into a hole, but to make the game more interesting, there are all kinds of obstacles on and around a course, making a hole in one even more difficult to obtain.. There are bodies of water, trees, shrubs, sand-filled traps, and roughs. When your ball winds up in an area like this, you absolutely cannot touch the ground or the water with your club. If you decide not to play your golf ball, but then you must add a penalty stroke to your total score.

What if you hit your golf ball out of bounds or it gets lost? Here is the basic rule for that: A ball is considered to be lost if is not found within five minutes. If your golf ball is lost or out of bounds, you must add a penalty stroke to your score and replay your last shot.

People of different playing levels will swear up and down that their way is best – but really, their is no right way to play golf. You need to have the proper equipment, know the basic rules and then just practice, practice, practice.

Many players swear the golf equipment, such as adams golf drivers, can make for a better game. Every game has to have some sort of scoring system, and golf is no exception.

These are the basics of the game of golf. Of course, the right equipment and lots of practice is what will make you good at the game!

February 17th, 2009 Hitting the Long Ball with Mizuno Drivers

With spring on its way it’s the perfect time to get out to the clubhouse to drive a few balls. While at it, it’s a good time to survey your clubs to make sure you are using the highest quality clubs, like Mizuno drivers.

One of the most overlooked items in your arsenal of clubs is your driver. So much emphasis is put on the putter that the driver is usually in the back seat. It’s understandable since the putter is responsible for most of the clutch shots you will make this season but ultimately those clutch shots are possible due to a high quality driver. Mizuno drivers are made to meet the demands of different golfers around the world. They range from moderately priced drivers to highly advanced metal drivers with adjustable weights to help compensate your swing.

The Mizuno F-60 Fairway Wood throws traditional wooden driver concepts in the pond off of the 9th green and embraces lightweight stainless steel cores with titanium crowns for a lightweight yet powerful swing. It’s a proven winner and will allow a golfer to enhance their overall swing and allow them to drive their ball closer to the green every time. The Exar graphite shaft helps to absorb vibration thus limiting fatigue during that grueling 18-hole grudge match with your business partner. This will help you maintain a more accurate swing for longer durations throughout your outing.

The flagship Mizuno driver is the Mizuno MP600. It’s a complete revolution in driver technology. This driver is the king of being able to customize itself to your playing style and needs. It’s a 460 CC driver with patented fast track technology. This technology allows you to shift the weight inside of the driver to compensate for your swing. With an eight-gram weight you can basically have fifteen different drivers in one. That’s simply the most versatile feature on a club in golf. The fact that it’s CNC machined with the highest quality metals means it will provide you with accurate performance and precision craftsmanship. The MP60 can also be fitted with two different brands of graphite shafts to allow for even more versatility. So when you are ready to tee off at one of those famous Disney golf courses be ready to out drive anyone in your party!

So when you are out there getting back into shape for the spring golf season look deep into your bag of tricks and really pay attention to that driver. After all, the driver is the first club you’ll take out of your bag on every tee off. Shouldn’t it be one of the best clubs in your bag? Give yourself the advantage with Mizuno drivers.
